THE WORK HAS BEGUN.
Groundswell is taking shape as we speak. If you are a teen or young adult and have an interest in being part of something big, come, join us! Interested people will have the opportunity to work together to design and decorate the interior of a youth arts venue.
If you are an artist or simply love art; a musician or just love to listen to good music; an actor or someone who just wants to watch theatre, we need your help! All of these activities will serve to expand your knowledge and skills in planning, organizing, leadership, and the arts.

MISSION AND VISION
The mission of Groundswell is to create a gathering space that is dedicated to relationship building, leadership development, and educational experiences by fostering and supporting teens and young adults through art, music, creative writing, and entrepreneurship.
Our vision is to empower creative young people to become leaders through social, educational, and safe environments; enhancing their lives and enriching the community.
Groundswell will serve two valuable purposes: First, it will be a safe, comfortable community gathering place, particularly for young people from the
DESCRIPTION
The larger portion of Groundswell will house art shows and open studios, theater productions, music promotions, and creative writing work, along with free entertainment through games, movies, and social interactions between friends and community.
On the educational side, Groundswell will focus on leadership and job training programs; computers will be available to access college classes, scholarships, and other life enhancement fields. A section of space will be set aside for a resource library.
IMPORTANCE OF GROUNDSWELL
Studies have shown a connection between a strong arts education and increased academic achievement, as well as art having a positive effect on interpersonal skills, confidence, motivation to succeed, and preparation for work. Members of Groundswell will work on individual artistic projects, as well as collaborate on group projects and events.
Art is not the sole focus of this venue. The young people will gain important leadership skills as they act as peer-mentors while learning together, providing help and encouragement through the creative process. This casual learning environment will allow young people a more comfortable setting to express themselves, as well as have vital opportunities to form positive relationships with their peers. Learning combined with teaching one-on-one will bring more confidence and a higher understanding of an individual’s own creative process. With volunteer supervisors, young people will have the opportunity to become true leaders, making decisions and plans about group projects and activities, and being the organizing force behind what they do.
If you want to donate art materials or other items to Groundswell, please bring donations to our office at 225 K Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids.
