The Matthew 25 Tool Library is a collection of tools and supplies made available to community members and organizations to maintain and improve their homes, gardens and communities.
Get affordable access to tools for your home, garden, and maintenance projects through the Matthew 25 Tool Library. You’ll find everything from drywall jacks to ladders, saws to rakes, pliers to tile saws. We also have a comprehensive library of home improvement books.
The Tool Library is located behind the Matthew 25 office at 201 3rd Ave SW. Enter at the back door off the alley at 2nd Street.
Our online inventory is back, with our most popular tools! We still have lots of tools getting updated, so if you don’t see something you’re looking for please ask.
Who Can Use the Tool Library?
Affordable tool rentals are available to anyone 18-years-old or older. We strive to be the most affordable option for quality tools. Free memberships are available for income qualified households.
Small tools and hand tools are free for members, and larger more expensive tools have a low daily fee. Tool rentals can be as short as a day, and reservations can be made online. Tools need to be returned as soon as you are finished with them so we can get them back into circulation. Some safety training is available upon request.
Late fee is $1 per day on top of the daily rental fee.
For hand tools not listed in the inventory, please add request to the notes/comments section at checkout.
To view tool availability and check out tools, you must establish an online account. For faster checkouts, go to your account settings and store your credit/debit card securely with our online payment processor. If unable to pay by credit card, pay at the front desk during pickup hours.
First time users receive a 30 day free membership. After that, monthly and annual memberships are available to individuals and organizations for $15/month or $150/year.
Income qualified households may be eligible for free membership.
Donate Tools & Books
Donate your new and used tools, home improvement books, and project books to the Matthew 25 Tool Library.
We are happy to receive donations and in some cases are able to help clean out shops when people are downsizing or moving. Donations are tax deductible.
Donations may be dropped off Monday-Friday 10am-2pm at the front desk of the Matthew 25 office. Call 319-362-2214 to make an appointment for large donation drop offs or pick-ups.
If there are items that the library can use, we add them to the collection, otherwise they become part of the tool sale, which helps support the repair and purchase of tools. Marked items are available to purchase during Tool Library hours.
